No, I am not a dragonfly. I am a Damselfly. We have similarities, but, I am the daintier looking of the two of us.
We have both been around since the time of dinosaurs. We were much larger then, but so were a lot of other animals of that time.
When I am at rest, both pairs of my wings are drawn in and lay along my body.
I come in many colours and sometimes blend in with my surroundings. I like to think of it as my camo outfit.
Most of the time, though, if you are paying attention, you will see me quite easily.
- I am a meat eater. Don't groan. I can't help it if other insects are my favourite dish.
- I am often found near water, but I am seen in yards and other unsuspecting areas.
- I do like to lay my eggs in water; however, any vegetation near a wetland will do in a pinch.
- If you see two of us joined together in a wheel like position, don’t panic, we are mating. Don't blush. It's a fact of life.
