Squawking interrupts the quiet of the post dawn. Insistent parents teaching fledglings. Myths surround the onyx coloured spirit bird with the piercing eyes. Yet, once you get to know them, they’re the friend you want hanging around. The one who’ll have your back, lets you know you’re watched over, gives you a nudge when you would rather be left alone, and lets you see insightful truths. On this morning, when their wings took them skyward to see who else they could annoy with their noise, the crows left a gift. A reminder of their importance…One lone black feather. #AnnEdallRobson #TheQuietSpirits #FromWhereICome #99Words #FlashFiction #Feather #ranchtradition #CalmingWhisper #SpiritBirdv#CapturingMomentsOthersMayNeverGetToExperience #CozyMysteries #PromptWriting #WesternHeritage #TheOldWays #RanchCulture #Myths #Legends Carrot Ranch - In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that features feathers. Beautiful, poetic prose resting on the tip of that single black feather.

Thank you Liz. Crows often don't get the recognition they deserve.

Crows are such great birds. They do discern the humans they can trust...and gift!

It took me a while to accept their persona, but I welcome them, even when they are making annoying chatter.

Despite their insistence, crows are less intimidating than the magpies we get Down Under. I like it that way. The crows deserve more love.

Rebecca, we have both crows and magpies here in Alberta. There is a constant debate between them as to who is the more dominant. The magpies seem to never stop squawking while the crows say their bit and saunter (or fly) away.
