Power's Out

“Power’s out, again.”

“Thank goodness for the camp stove. We’ll crank it up outside when we are ready to eat.”

“I’ll bring in another arm load of wood for the fireplace while it’s still light.”

“There is some lettuce and chard that can salvaged from the garden. There won’t be much need to chop it up after that last bout of hail."

The week had been filled with wild storms. Rain, wind, hail. Battering the house and annihilating the garden.

The antiques had been put to use on a regular basis of late. Bringing family and friends together. Playing cards and board games by the light of the oil lamps. Listening to the tick, tick, tick of Granddad’s old wind up clock.

The big house at the end of the lane had become the gathering spot for the neighbours.  Pot luck served on the dining room table. Music supplied by someone playing a guitar and the aging upright piano. Laughter, food, fun and good people enjoying life as it should be, thanks to Mother Nature.

Reminiscent of a simpler time.

This is Day 4 of a photo and story challenge from Charli Mills.  Today, I nominate friend and traveler, Lori , to take up the challenge if she is so obliged to participate.

We will never not need some of the old ways.

So true. It's comforting to think people still embrace the "old ways" when they can.
