Milestone

Turning any age is a milestone and worth celebrating. How you approach and embrace it, is what makes the day. Turning 60 was awesome. Easy for me to write about and share with the world.

21,900 days old, plus days for the occasional leap year, thrown in along the way. A number this size conjures up thoughts of relics, historic artifacts. To me, those would be compliments. One could be called worse.  Fact is, there is a lot of history attached to anyone entering their seventh decade.

Interpretation

Describing an emotion without saying the word is like playing charades. Everyone in the game comes up with a different thought, creative answer, and individual interpretation.  Only the person acting out the word truly knows what the end result should be.

At rest, eyes closed. A sensation tingles through the orb surrounding the thought. Light years away for a moment. Within the grasp of reality. Sliced and diced to extravagance. Making way to the next level. Accomplishments checked from the long list of needs, but mostly wants. The ultimate hurdle crested. Completion. Rest.
Did you guess the emotion I wrote about? Most likely not, because how would you know this is my interpretation of euphoria.

Conquer

The Chipmunk pondered how to conquer the need and want of the tasty seed pod morsels. It didn't take long for the plan to formulate. The rock, became the portal of success.

Climb to the top
Ever searching
Need for success
Masks the fear
Try is imbedded
Blindly we go
Clearing barriers
Feeling the thrill
Daring the mind

Ignoring the soul
Reaching the edge
Elation is short
Another abyss
Always a test
Fear to succeed
Looms in shadows
Conquer we must

The distance between

100

My e-mail inbox reached proportions of what some would consider unmanageable before I made the decision to clean house. Unsubscribing to newsletters I wasn’t reading and deleting those I, at one time thought were important. Moving the ‘keepers’ to files for future ease of finding. My task each day is now easy. My inbox is being managed and I am reading what I actually want to see, and more importantly, what am interested in.
Picture
Full and overflowing, again! How can so much nothingness appear from no where, day in and day out? It happens because of the greed for knowledge. The need to learn from the perspectives and opinions from others. The inbox reaches numbers unmanageable (almost). The promise to keep it under 100 is working.

Lost Things

Everyone has a cupboard or drawer that holds treasures. Insignificant bits of our lives gathered to remind us we tend to be misers of inconsequential, but just the same, important parts of our life from any given time. Occasionally, tucked in the back corner, under neath all that is sacred, we find the one lost thing with so much importance and power it may render us speechless with anticipation.

The drawer gaped open. String, mismatched shoe laces, and pens long dry and useless. Among the menagerie, a key poked out from the wall’s edge. His heart pounded like the rhythm of a horse at full gallop. The key to the diary pages of Gran’s story, the lost things of her memory.

The Timer Started

Sacha Black has definitely thrown down the gauntlet with Writespiration 2017. Over 52 weeks, there will be 52 challenges. The result of each week's prompt is to create a story in 52 words - no more, no less.  The brain has been diverted to scramble mode.

This week's prompt required the use of the phrase "the timer started". Thoughts of everything from writing test papers, baking a cake and other wacky topics finally had me wander down the trail of comfort. Well, comfortable until my word count hit the magic number and I didn't feel like I was quite done.

Cattle penning is a competitive equine sport that requires the skill of three mounted riders to attain the goal of sorting three cows, with the same number, from a herd of thirty, and put them into a pen at the other end of the arena, in the least amount of time, and under the designated time limit.

Participating is exciting. Spectating, has been likened to watching paint dry, if you don't know the rules or the players.

“Riders are you ready?”
“Flag’s Up.”
The judge’s arm dropped and the timer started the clock.
“Number 9.”
Three riders on horseback. Thirty head of cattle. One pen. Sort three cows with the same number. Drive them into the in the pen in the least amount of time.
“Time.”
The clock stops.
