21 Word Story - The Invitation

An open invitation to participate in a 21-word story challenge intrigued me.  At first the thought was “a piece of cake”. Then the Bunster somehow got turned loose resulting in every composition staring up from the once blank pages being more than the required 21-words.

Closing the notebook and walking away from this challenge was one alternative; however, that thought only added more fuel to the voice inside that kept up the incessant chatter that this could and should be done.

Convinced that the term restraint needed to be introduced as the operative buzz word to reduce the word count, the book closed again. 21-words was not quite the style of writing the pages were accustomed to from my pen.

Time to take another look at how this challenge would fit.

The blinders were removed. The internal brain storming expounded on the accessible choices that would grant acceptance to the challenge.

The book closed one more time. The decision had been made. The challenge to write a story in multiples of 21-words could and would be done. Each story would be a snippet, a scene, a character of a larger more complex story that would be melded together as one.

As the days, weeks and maybe months evolve, so will the story that has been simmering in the wings - 21-words at a time.

Let the tale begin!

Pencil (check).

Notebook (check).
