Attending a Women Writing the West conference had been sort of a bucket list item for me since I joined the organization. You can only imagine my surprise and delight when Steve, a.k.a. the man of the house gifted me a trip for my 2018 conference being held in Walla Walla, WA. No, it is not held here each year, as a matter of fact, it moves around to various locations throughout the U.S.A.
What is interesting about this organization, is the name. One might immediately think it is about women writers who write about the West. Not quite, I see it more as a group of women, and men who pen words on various topics about the women who were, and are, an integral part of how the history of the West itself has transpired and continues to be molded. |
The genres travel across a great expanse of historical fiction, factual fiction, non-fiction, educational, and children’s books to name a few. The 2018 member list includes people from all walks of life, residing in the U.S.A., Canada, and Australia.
The conference itself was filled with workshops, tours, networking, awards, good food, and great people. I can’t say enough about this professionally ran conference right from my arrival to the last goodbye. Thank you Women Writing the West for a great time. I look forward to the next time. |
