Spring, the time of year I watch for the green shoots, listen for the sound of the Canada Geese, Robins and Kestrels. The season that lures me outdoors. In our neck of the woods, the ground is still froze enough to stop thoughts of digging in the dirt; but, with all the activity Mother Nature offers, it is a good time to walk, observe, learn and feel what’s going on. Spring is one of my favourite times of the year (the other being the Fall). The weather’s neither cold or hot, making it my kind of working environment; where I can sit on the deck, go for a walk, or take a drive along the back roads. Find a spot to listen to the sounds, take pictures, write, or sit and soak up the day. I rely on the outdoors, the visions and sounds to clear my mind. The jumbled thoughts are given space to congregate in their appropriate location. Settling my focus through the nothing, yet the everything that is within my sight. Filtering the important from what can be shelved for another day or turfed all together. These stolen times outside the walls of my office may be for a day, a few hours, or a 'holy crap' moment that has me running to the yard to watch the geese flying over. An interlude that makes me smile, grounds me to the things that have meaning to me, and inspire me to continue to forge ahead towards my goals. Where does your stolen time come from? Ann Edall-Robson
Author, Photographer, Lover of Life "Capturing moments others may never get to experience." People hearts and feelings are not as giving as Mother Nature. Humans expect some reciprocal give back if they give you their heart. And, quite often, there is some kind of string attached to the body part that pumps life through us. Mother Nature, on the other hand, gives sometimes for a fleeting moment, sometimes for an hour, or sometimes forever. Each time she bestows upon you a heart, she is happy just to have made you smile. No strings attached! Imagine, if you would, seeing a heart in the most unexpected places. Definately a gift no human being could ever give. Have you had an unexpected heart sighting? Author, Photographer, Lover of Life "Capturing moments others may never get to experience." The knee jerk reaction to an offer that encompasses your passion is to yell out, “Hell, yes!” After all, doing what you love, makes it easy to love what you’re doing. If you hesitate when an opportunity presents itself, even for a second, the analytical brain will start to process doubts that include the age old saying, “This is too good to be true.” Sometimes the push to agree comes from a need from within to change, to go forward, or to just live the dream, even if it is for that given moment in time. I have been visiting with Meagan Saam of Silver Valley Ranch for a few years. There are times, we wander all over a plethora of topics. Brainstorming, laughing, going for walks and (me) coming away with way more inspiration than the brain is worthy of. On a recent beautiful winter day, I again had the pleasure of visiting with Meg. We bounced around ideas, had some serious moments and a good laugh. At the end of our time together, this lovely lady presented me with a fantastic gift to consider. This was one of those “Hell, yes!” moments. I am delighted to share with everyone, I have accepted Meg’s offer to become one of the Partnering Professionals at Silver Valley Ranch. What will I be doing? Meg's words say it best. "Guiding groups on quiet, exploratory, nature based photography and intuitional writing sessions and workshops." Workshop dates and times will be available soon. Please contact Ann or Meg for more information. Let your mind float to the clouds, read a book, watch people in a crowd. For some, there is a need to be inspired by the thoughts of others. A sentence, a word, a conversation and writing prompts. Where inspires your writing?
Superstition or truth? The old timers, where I grew up, will swear by the knowledge moss grows predominantly on the north side of a tree. In other areas of the world, this theory can be argued. Either way, knowing the signs that Mother Nature imparts on all who want to pay attention, may be a clue to finding your way. Do you have a superstition that just might be a truth? Ann Edall-Robson
Author, Photographer, Lover of Life This word alone has the ability to affect everyone differently. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary has no less than nine definitions and derivatives. Each covers a broad spectrum of our visual and emotional being. There are meanings that take us deep into our soul looking for answers to our life questions. Perhaps inspired by meditation or a time of peaceful solace. Reading old journals and letters. Seeing photographs. Reminders of thought provoking moments. Laughter and sadness. Others have us looking into a mirror to determine if the image there is a facade. Presenting the alter ego with queries and admonishments. Easily dismissed by turning away. The simple double image influenced by light. Leaving us with questions of where the shoreline begins and ends. Shadows blend in and out with the breeze. What does reflection mean to you? Author, Photographer, Lover of Life Recent travel for a fun family event, the trip was made by air. Jotting thoughts. Taking pictures and enjoying the somewhat road rutted ride, (that is a nice way of describing turbulence), we reached our destination. A 90th Birthday was the highlight of our time away, but we managed a few mini road trips and were able to capture some interesting and beautiful fall life from another part of the country. Author, Photographer, Lover of Life There has been 11 out of 25 days in January 2016 where we have experienced fog. So? You Say. Keep in mind that the old timers watched the sky and the weather continually. It told them everything from time, weather changes and even when there was going to be precipitation.
I consider my Dad to have been an old timer. He would say and do things that were odd when it came to weather, but there was hardly a time that he wasn’t right. He monitored the animal (wild and domestic), he watched the sky, and the sight of the geese flying south or north during their migration prompted another seasonal comment. It was from him that I learned about some of the neat things Mother Nature can tell us. Take all the fog we’ve been having. I diligently mark it on the calendar. I then move to the date on the calendar that is 90 days in the future, and record it again, including the month from when the fog actually happened. The prediction is that 90 days hence from any type of fog, there will be precipitation of some kind. Now you may think that this is a hokey old story, but, I have used this system for years and it has very rarely been wrong. I must admit, I do not count out the actual 90 days, I use the three month theory and then +/-a couple of days. Even doing it this lazy man’s way still produces the same results. So now that I have shared this little bit of weather forecasting history with you, make note that the month of January 2017 is going to be brutal for precipitation according to what the old timers would have predicted. Next time you have fog in your area, record it on your calendar and again 90 days out and see what happens. You might be able to plan your outdoor activities without the help of the T.V. meteorologist.
